30th October – 6 November. First week of summer.
Well the summer has well and truly started and is in full swing now. The station is full of scientists, summer tradies and operators performing all sorts of experiments and work programs. At Comms we have been really busy. I think we configured and set up about 60 laptops and accounts in the first three days. Out of those 5 had viruses and about 8 had serious configuration problems that made life just a tad interesting, not to mention frustrating. Gotta love IT! There has been a large amount of science support required and our days have been very long this week as well. Every one seems to begin at 7:30AM and end around 6PM for dinner then continue on afterwards most nights. Hopefully by the end of this week things will slow down a little and stop being so crazy.
While I am typing this I am also on duty doing radio Comms for the various parties out in the field. Poor old Greg, our comms operator, has been doing radio Comms nearly every night so I have given him the day off to go and do whatever he wants and have a rest.
I have to say, it is still nice to have the place full of people. And it is lovely to have girls to chat with once more. Over in science Andrew and I have an open invitation to go and join them for real coffee and good lollies whenever we wish, which is nice. All the scientists are a good bunch.
I organised a big Karaoke Cocktail party last night for the station. It wasn’t quite as wild as our winter karaoke night, but it was a big success and everyone had a great night. I got up and sang my favourite karaoke song “Jeremiah was a bullfrog” and lots of other equally silly songs. It was a lot of fun.
8 weeks to go until I can leave this place and come home to a life and my puppy dog! YAY!!!!
Cheers everyone, have a good one.
