New Years Eve
As soon as Christmas was over it was all hands back on deck and the work continued full on. Summer is a busy season with all science work having to be completed before the last ship leaves in March. However, we did all stop to see in the New Year and throw a bit of a party. The Theme was Mask-erade. The legendary Sparkies - Lisa and Brad started setting up the lights in the morning. There was enough equipment to stage a full blown U2 Concert! Then Andrew and I set up the PA set and Mixer desk for the Casey band - "Clutching at Straws" - first performance. Once we finished, the lights still weren’t complete so we pitched in to help. At about 5:30, after 6 of us had joined the set up crew - the lights were complete. It was a mammoth effort, but well worth it. The effects were fabulous. A huge backdrop of the City Skyline had been made by some of the science dudes and we hung that and set up coloured spotlights on it. It was awesome!
We all work very hard – 6 days a week – at Casey station, however when we play, we do play very hard as well. It was a big night and a brilliant one. I can honestly say I don’t think I have ever had a better New Years Eve. We partied till the wee small hours.
